The Best Watering Cans
A metal watering can outlasts a plastic one by decades. Galvanized steel does not split, crack, or become brittle in sunlight. Copper develops a patina that protects it indefinitely. The Haws watering can, made in England, has not changed its design since 1886 because the design was right to begin with.

How to Choose
For outdoor use: a 2-gallon galvanized can is the practical format -- heavy enough to deliver a useful amount of water per trip, light enough to carry when full. For indoor plants: a 1-quart or 1-liter long-neck can with a fine rose (the sprinkler head) delivers water slowly and precisely to the root zone without disturbing the soil. Copper is beautiful and long-lasting but the most expensive option.
Haws Practican Galvanized Steel Watering Can 1.7 Gallon
Haws has been making watering cans in England since 1886. The Practican is their standard outdoor galvanized steel can: 1.7 gallons, with the long oval body and oval rose that deliver a gentle, even spray. The balance when full is designed so the weight falls directly over the hand, not in front of it. The galvanized finish has been the standard for garden use for 138 years.
The original. Made by the company that defined what a watering can should be.
